Method of the Month: Say No to Jugs!

Another month, another rad video to share. This time we're learning all about method's laundry detergent, and I promise you, from my very own experience, the "free & clear" method detergent has been the best I've ever used.

I love it for a few reasons:

1. I have a strange hatred for certain household tasks, one of them being using that little cup when pouring detergent into the machine. It gets so messy, and with the number hidden inside you never know how much you really need. It bothers me how sneaky they are with those big cups and the actual detergent needed being only a small fraction of it. I'm willing to bet that most people don't even pay attention to the little line conveniently placed inside the big cup, using way too much detergent...and in turn buying way too much detergent. But method has solved my hatred of that little cup problem with their four-pump bottle! Simply pump it four times and voilĂ ! Your laundry is on its way to being super clean.

2. My clothes feel cleaner, and I feel better using something non-toxic to do it. As much as I'd like to tell you we've always used environmentally friendly detergents, I can't. Before trying out the method detergent I'd always been a Tide kind of girl. My Mom used it, my Grandma used it, it's what I knew. But because I was doing this new thing with method, I thought I should try it out...and I'm so happy I had an open-mind. Sponsored posts and what not aside, method is THE best detergent I've used. I love it.

3. The bottle. It's small, it's cute, and it fits so nicely up above our washer and dryer- much better than the huge jug 'o detergent we had up there before. When I was a college student I would have LOVED this little bottle. I have some not-so-fond memories of trying to wrangle a huge bottle of Tide plus a huge laundry basket down eight floors to the laundry room. I'd always spill some on my clean clothes, and it was just the biggest pain ever. method where were you back in 2000 when my freshman self needed you, huh?

4. This video. I think having a fun little song to hum while doing the laundry is always fun, and I especially like the end of this one.

And I have some good news for all of you - you have three ways to get some free and almost-free method laundry detergent:

1. Visit method's Facebook and enter to win some awesome prizes- one person will win a year’s supply of Method detergent, and 25 people will win laundry starter kits (two 8-load bottles). This is a photo contest, and method wants to see who or what makes doing laundry without method such a chore. Check out the rules and requirements for more info.

2. $2 off coupon- Every Thursday for the month of May, there will be a $2.00 off coupon for method Laundry Detergent on method's Facebook perks tab. And for my Canadian readers, instead of printing the physical coupon, you can get $2 off Method products available here using the discount code "WASHME."

3. And finally, if you one of the first 10 commenters down below, method will send you a free laundry starter kit. Awesome, right? (be sure to leave your email address).

Yay for clean that doesn't make you feel all dirty.

Clean Like a Mother

Method Summit March 2012

Do you remember this photo from my method trip to San Francisco? See that guy with the guitar? Well that's Noah, and he's official spokesinger for method. Annnnd, he's pretty much awesome. We actually got a surprise concert from him and it was a ton of fun. You can't help but smile when he gets going with his singing, rhyming self, and from the videos we were able to preview, you won't be able to stop from giggling either.

method will be debuting a new video each month to celebrate their "method of the month," so you'll get to see Noah in all of his glory on the regular. This month, Noah is singing about method's All-purpose cleaner...which I love. We use this cleaner everywhere and I promise you, it's that good. You may even want to sing about it...

And even better? This month under the "Perks" tab on method's Facebook page is a $1 off coupon for all method products, ready for redemption at all major US retailers. We buy our method at Target, but there are a ton of places you can find it.

And for all my Canadian readers, instead of printing the physical coupon, you will be able to get $1 off any method products available by clicking here and using the discount code "CLEANME." Something for everyone!

Happy method of the month day, everyone! Let me know what you decide to use your coupon on. I think I am going to stock up on some more of that Lime + Sea Salt handsoap...mmm...

Clean Happy makes me happy! ...& win a trip to San Francisco, too!

First of all, I can't say it enough- I am SO excited to be partnering with method to share some awesome things over the upcoming months.  If you don't know what method is, let me tell you! Or actually, let me grab a little blurb from their website because they can say it much better than I can -

Eric knew people wanted cleaning products they didn’t have to hide under their sinks. And Adam knew how to make them without any dirty ingredients. Their powers combined, they set out to save the world and create an entire line of home care products that were more powerful than a bottle of sodium hypochlorite. Gentler than a thousand puppy licks. Able to detox tall homes in a single afternoon.

I really, really love method and that's why I'm excited to share this love with all of you. I can't think of anything better than using products that are good for the environment and also safe to use around my family, so method is really a win-win in our house. Plus, the products are so well-designed and really beautiful that you can't help but admire them. I have a couple neat things to share with you today too, and first up is this video! It will answer some of questions I got on Instragram and this post, like "what is with that huge nose?" or "is that a lite brite made out of method bottles?!" The answer awaits you below...

Wasn't that fantastic?! After learning all about the method story it totally makes me tear up...and it's so neat to recognize so many wonderful method faces, too. And some more good news? method is offering the chance for one lucky person to win a trip for two to San Francisco (just like the trip I went on) including a visit to the method HQ, lunch with the Method co-founders, a year’s supply of Method products, and other surprises, too!

Sounds amazing, right?

To enter, simply head over to the method Facebook page and click on the "clean happy" tab, then click on the "enter to win" banner. The contest begins today and ends April 3rd. Good luck! And if one of you win, take me with you, please!

Before I go, I'd love to know -
  • Do you use method products?
  • And if so, which scent or product is your favorite?
Right now I'm LOVING the Lime + Sea Salt hand soap. It's summer in a bottle!

method Summit in San Francisco

Picnik collage3

Okay first of all...wow. WHAT A WEEKEND! I think it's okay to use all caps because if you were talking to me on the phone or in person about this I'd probably be squealing, or maybe even yelling. The wonderful people at method brought me out for a few days to get excited about their products, their story, and their culture...and get excited I did! I'm going to be working with method on some new projects they have up their sleeve, so it was important for me to really check them out, and I left feeling great about it. They are a company with a very inspiring story, and I feel proud to be working with them.  I also think that since becoming a Mom weekends like this feel more fun than ever. I'm so used to doing Henry stuff all day (best thing in the world), but it makes it extra exciting to get dolled up and eat fancy food, see beautiful things, and just travel a little out of my comfort zone. So an extra big thanks goes to Hank and my parents for watching Henry. I feel grateful that I was able to do this and I am so excited about the past few days that I hope you'll excuse a possible overuse of exclamation points, too. ;)

I arrived on Thursday evening to the absolutely gorgeous Hotel Monaco and after freshening up I headed downstairs to meet the other "method Mavens" for dinner (you probably saw the #methodmavens hashtag on twitter or instagram if you follow the other ladies or myself). We headed over to Radius and enjoyed a delicious multi-course meal, topped off with the most decadent lemon tart.  This was my first time ever attending an out-of-state blogger event like this, and although I was a bit nervous at first, I got comfortable pretty quickly- all of the girls were just so sweet. It was really awesome to be surrounded by so many like-minded women and I was equally excited to meet so many new friends.

The next morning we all met in one of the conference rooms for breakfast before boarding the bus to head over to the Method headquarters. As we were pulling in I heard someone say "oh my god!" Then a gasp, another "oh my GOD!" ...more gasps, and all of a sudden I see that all of the method team is outside with balloons, waving with huge beaming smiles, ready to usher us in!  It was awesome and totally set the tone for the day.

We made our way inside after we finished squealing and taking tons of photos of the happy-balloon-method-people like the snap-happy bloggers we are. The two (wonderful/engaging/funny) founders of Method came out- Eric Ryan and Adam Lowry- and told us a short version of their story: how method came about, what it means to them, and where they see it going. It was fascinating, incredibly inspiring, and I thought it was the best possible way to kick off the event.

Our method Summit was chock full of a whole lot- we spent some time learning about their products, learning about production, sustainability and their "green" practices, we tested out different scents, checked out past, present and future designs...and a million other fun things too. We heard from a wide variety of method employees, had a fun photoshoot, completed a DIY project with Danny Seo and previewed a few top-secret method things as well. ;)

And then, Friday night's dinner! OH MY WORD. After the Summit we were treated to the most amazing 5-course meal designed around the method scent stories at the weirdest/coolest/ place ever- the old Russian Consulate. It was truly beautiful, but I don't think I have ever seen so much taxidermy in one place. It was pretty insane. The dinner was prepared by Stag Dining and consisted of so much deliciousness I don't even know to begin to write about it. Just know I said "oh my god this is the best _____ I have ever had" at almost every course.

Overall, words can't describe how great of a time this was. Blog business aside, it was really just an amazing weekend spent with some fantastic people. I feel so lucky to have met so many new friends, and I look forward to all that is to come. Thank you again to method, Mekanism, and everyone involved in this fabulous undertaking. It was a true success and I already can't wait to do it again!

If you'd like to check out the other "method Mavens" (and all the girls I had the pleasure of spending the weekend with!), check out the list below. And one more thank you to method and Mekanism for every little bit of it. You treated us like queens and I am so thankful.
