(Getty Images) Miley Cyrus' latest tattoo (via TMZ) Miley Cyrus got her first tattoo -- "Just Breathe" on her ribcage -- around December 2009 at the age of 17. Since then, she's added eight more! Some are big, some are small, and she claims every piece of ink on her body has deep meaning.

The singer has spoken openly about a couple of her pieces of ink, and she proudly showed off her latest tat this weekend.

Miley's first tattoo (Bauer Griffin) December 2009: "Just Breathe" was Cyrus' first tattoo, scrawled on her ribcage. The first pictures of it surfaced while she was in a bikini in December 2009. The starlet's since explained that the ink is a tribute to a friend who died of cystic fibrosis in 2007 and both of her grandfathers who died of cancer. She said: “It reminds me not to take things for granted. I mean breathing – that was something none of them could do, the most basic thing. And I put it near my heart, because that is where they will always be.”

Miley's inner ear (via Stealherstyle.net) Early 2010: "Love" came next. The word is printed on all caps on the inside of her ear. She got it done when her dad was also getting a tattoo, sometime in early 2010. The first pics of it surfaced in May 2010. She's said: “I have ‘Love’ right here to block out all the crap that everyone throws into your ears…I don’t really care about it. [You’re] only supposed to hear the things coming from the people that genuinely love you.”


Miley's heart (via mileycyrusworld.org) September 2010 and December 2010: The star's third tat was the outline of a heart on her right pinkie finger. She added a simple cross on the inside of her right ring finger not long after. And apparently Ms. Cyrus had some kind of line drawn on her middle finger as well. She's never talked about these symbols in interviews.


MIley's dream catcher tattoo (via Stealherstyle.net) February 2011: The singer added her biggest tattoo to date in early 2011, a dream catcher on her right side. A friend said in an interview that Cyrus got the ink with four feathers to represent her siblings, and the "dream catcher is to protect them."

Miley's anchor tat (Getty) May 2011: While touring in Brazil, Cyrus paid a visit to renowned tattoo artist Fabio Satori. He inked tattooed an anchor on the outside of her right wrist. Satori said about the choice: “Everyone had an idea in mind and references. She asked me something soft, I made two drawings and she chose one. Cyrus told her mother that she wanted something that refers to a safe port, something that reminded her that she always has a safe place to return to. The significance of the design is one of hope and a reminder to always have your feet on the ground.”
Miley's equal sign tat (via Twitter) July 2011: The starlet showed off her latest ink on Twitter this weekend, a small equal sign on the inside of her right ring finger. Cyrus has been very vocal about her support of same sex marriage (at least on Twitter), and she wrote "All LOVE is equal" as the caption to the picture of her new ink.

February 2012: Cyrus, beau Liam Hemsworth, and a few friends showed up at a tattoo parlor one Saturday night and the gang all watched the singer add another piece of ink to her collection. She got the words "Love Never Dies" on the inside of her left bicep.

The 19-year-old, who already has 14 tattoos, has a dream catcher design under her arm, which she recently displayed - along with some side boob - in a revealing cutaway shirt.
Other tatts include an anchor on her wrist, an etching of the Hindu Om symbol on her left wrist, a heart on her right hand and the phrase ‘Love never dies’ on her upper arm.
And she once claimed she would never get a tattoo unless it meant something.
She said: “It really doesn’t hurt if you’re thinking about the meaning.
"I could never get a meaningless tattoo, but I think that if you’re doing something that’s important, that’s significant in your life, it takes some of the pain away.”

Meanwhile Miley spilled the beans on teenage sex on US TV, saying "sex is beautiful".
She said: “I was talking about this at dinner last night. The girls that really base how much they’re worth on the sexual favours they can do for somebody, that makes me really sad.
“Because sex is actually really beautiful. It’s the only way we create, and it’s the only way the world keeps going,” she added.
Talking to Amanda de Cadanet on her talk show, she encouraged parents to talk to their kids about sex.
She said: “It’s ignorant not to talk to your kids about it or not make it seem as magical or cool as it actually is.
